Bridge Engineer - New York City and New Jersey Offices 

PDG is looking for a Bridge Engineer with 5-15 years of experience in highway and rail road bridge design. Candidates for this position must have significant professional experience in the design of bridge replacements and rehabilitations, as well as other transportation-related structures. 
 

Duties will include but not limited to: 

  • Supervise lower level design staff.

  • Perform structural analysis and design.

  • Prepare contract plans using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.

  • Prepare contract specifications.

  • Prepare estimates of quantities and bar lists.

  • Review shop drawings.

  • Perform in-depth bridge inspections.

  • Prepare bridge load ratings.

Required Qualifications: 

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (MS Preferred).

  • NY Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • 5-15 years of bridge design experience.

  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.

  • Familiarity with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDDC standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Familiarity with AREMA Bridge Design Specifications.

  • Familiarity with Amtrak, CSX, MTA and other railroad standards, policies, and procedures.

  • 3D Modeling experience working with STAAD, SAP, Larsa, Midas or other comparable software.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Project Architect

PDG is immediately seeking a high energy, team oriented, and dedicated Project Architect with project management experience and technical skills to join our award-winning team!

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture with a NY architecture license and registration

  • Make decisions independently regarding architectural complexities and methods.

  • Participate in the creation of proposals and/or client meeting materials.

  • Delegate and oversee tasks assigned to Intern Architects and Summer Interns

  • 5-10 years of experience in all facets of architectural design, management, and coordination

  • Familiarity of construction technologies and building codes relative to education, healthcare, institutional, and industrial projects

  • Complete understanding of public bid procedures

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD & Specification writing

  • USGBC LEED project experience

  • Candidates with LEED AP certification and presentation/graphics skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc.) are preferred

Electrical Engineer III - Binghamton   

Popli Design Group (PDG) is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our M/E/P Engineering Group in our Binghamton area office. The candidate shall be able to work independently with minimal mentoring and minimal guidance.

 

At a minimum, the ideal candidate shall possess the:

  • Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program.

  • Successful Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

  • Registration with NYS Department of Education as an Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Engineer In Training (E.I.T.) and within three years of completion of Professional Engineering requirements in New York State.

  • NYS DMV Driver’s License.

  • Three (3) to Six (6) years of experience in design of building electrical systems including power, lighting, and fire alarm and special systems.

  • Advanced working knowledge of electrical circuit theory and design.

  • Advanced understanding of building power distribution.

  • Advanced understanding of computer network systems and associated communications infrastructure within buildings.

  • Advanced understanding of signals / controls.

  • Proficient technical Report Writing Ability with fluency using the English Language.

  • Computer Skills:  Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), CAD Proficiency in both AutoCAD and REVIT.

  • Familiarity and knowledge of the National Electric Code (N.E.C. / NFPA 70).

  • Knowledge / Experience with lighting technologies for buildings.

 

The work anticipated for this Engineer includes:

  • Design of complete building electrical systems for both new and renovated buildings including power, lighting, fire alarm and other special systems.

  • Assigns tasks to, coordinates work of and reviews work of entry-level and junior engineers, designers and technicians.

  • Assist in developing schedule and workload requirements for entry-level and junior engineers, designers and technicians.

  • Travel between Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton and Buffalo Office, as well as to project sites will be required on occasion.

 

This position has the following expectations:

  • Interact with client and assist with communication and contracts regarding clients.

  • Perform routine tasks that require limited experience and limited knowledge.

  • Ability to learn new skills to learn new skills and adapt to non-routine problems.

  • Edits specifications from standard libraries.

  • Receive general review of all aspects of work.

Project Surveyor

PDG is seeking a full-time Project Surveyor (PLS) for our Rochester, NY office.  (There is also opportunity for this role to be filled out of our Binghamton, NY office.)  This position will primarily be an office role, assisting with field work as needed.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: ROW / property line determination, assisting with project management and general survey technical duties and mapping. The candidate must work well in a team environment, be well organized, and fluid with Microsoft Word and Excel.

For the Binghamton office, we are seeking the same skill set, but with potential for development into a management role and leading a survey crew from this satellite office.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying preferred

  • NYS Licensed Land Surveyor

  • 5+ years’ experience with Civil Engineering/Land Survey Firm

  • Must have experience with Microstation and/or AutoCAD

  • Experience with NYSDOT survey procedures a plus

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Higher Education Studio Leader​

PDG is seeking a high energy, experienced professional Mechanical Engineer to lead our Higher Education Studio.

 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 -10 years of engineering / project management experience leading multi-discipline MEP Engineering teams, specifically for higher education clients; Public and Private. 

  • Experience working with the State University of New York (SUNY) and their partners DASNY and SUCF is strongly desired.

  • REVIT MEP BIM experience  

  • NYS PE 

 

Responsibilities:

The Higher Education Studio leader will be responsible for Client Development, Project Financial Management, Mentoring of Junior Staff, Workload Projection, and Recruiting for your Studio.  The position requires the ability to lead multiple concurrent and complex projects with teams of MEP engineers from initial concept through design, construction, and commissioning.

 

 

Civil/Site Engineer

PDG is seeking a qualified Civil/Site Engineer with 5-7 years’ experience for our Buffalo office. Candidates will play a role in all phases of the projects including the development of design concepts in a wide variety of projects which may include site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, hydrology & hydraulics, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Review of municipal zoning and land development ordinances and applicable agency regulations to determine land development limitations for the property.

  • Site Investigation & Due Diligence includes the review of ordinances, utility service research, outside agency regulations and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines.

  • Preparation of Concept Drawings based upon client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence

  • Design of Stormwater Management & Stormwater Conveyance Systems including use of AutoCAD and Civil 3D design software.

  • Knowledge of Stormwater Management regulations should include County, SCD and governing municipality in NY.

  • Grading Design to ensure value engineering is achieved through earthwork analysis, and site safety is accomplished through the use of appropriate design slopes.

  • Subdivision and site plan design and layout.

  • Design of Utility Systems, sanitary sewer service, pump station design, water, gas, telephone service, etc. Also involves determination and resolution of vertical and horizontal utility conflicts that may exist.

  • Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Design including stability calculations, Best Management Practices, swale design, spillway design, and determination of construction sequence.

  • Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings as required for bonding and client purposes.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • 3-8 years of residential and/or commercial site design

  • NYS PE preferred

  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Civil 3D Preferred

  • Knowledge of the planning and zoning process

  • Effective written and communication skills

Structural Engineer

PDG is seeking a Structural Engineer in either our Buffalo or Rochester, NY office, with experience in designing educational, commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, and residential structures.  Projects range from new construction and large additions to structural investigations, condition assessments, capacity analysis, renovation, rehabilitation and strengthening of existing structures.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Design of structural systems from conception through construction

  • Serve as advisers to architects and owners

  • Work within established budgets and schedules

  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects at the same time

 

Requirements:

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • MS in Structural Engineering Desired

  • 3-5 years’ experience with structural engineering and design

  • Engineer In Training (EIT)

Senior Project Manager - Bridges 

PDG is seeking a flexible, team-oriented Sr. Bridge Engineer for our Bridge Design Division. This position may be located in either of our Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, or New York offices. In this position, you will manage all bridge design activities as well as lead a team on specific bridge projects. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • NYS PE License

  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in bridge design

  • Experienced in the design of steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete and timber

  • Familiarity with common structural analysis and design software programs

  • Familiarity with Microstation and/or AutoCAD

  • Familiarity with NYSDOT, NYSTA standards

  • Good written & verbal communication skills

Junior Mechanical Engineer 

PDG is seeking candidates with 0-3 years of experience in the design of HVAC, plumbing and/or fire protection systems for building facilities.  Candidates must be able to perform engineering evaluations and analyses, field inspections, design drawings, technical specifications and cost estimation under direct supervision of senior engineers.

 

Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology (EIT or eligible for PE in NYS upon completion of requirements preferred)

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Designing HVAC and plumbing systems for schools, healthcare facilities and commercial projects preferred

  • Knowledge of NYS Mechanical, Energy and Plumbing codes, NFPA specification writing and experience with USGBC LEED projects preferred

  • Revit MEP proficiency, Energy Modeling experience (Carrier HAP, TRANE TRACE, or EQUEST), LEED Green Associate and Commissioning experience, preferred

  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Standards (62.4, 90.1, etc.) a plus

 

Junior Bridge Design Engineer 

PDG is seeking an Entry Level Bridge Design Engineer in our Rochester, NY office. We are looking for candidates with the ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment with exceptional communication, analytical and organizational skills. This position performs highway and/or railroad bridge design and detailing tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer.

 

Job responsibilities include:

  • Perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations. 

  • Detailed checking of design calculations performed by others.

  • Develop structural details and construction plans using Microstation or AutoCAD. 

  • Assist with geometric layout, construction specification development and material quantity calculations. 

  • Assist in bridge condition inspections and preparation of inspection reports. 
     

Desired applicant must possess:

  • BS in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis 

  • MS in Structural Engineering preferred, but not required

  • Engineer In Training (EIT) preferred 

  • Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation

Heavy Highway Construction Inspectors

PDG is actively seeking personnel for Heavy Highway and Bridge Construction Inspection projects for the Greater Rochester and Syracuse area for the 2018 season.

 

Project locations include: Monroe, Ontario, Wyoming, and Onondaga Counties. NYSDOT and NYSTA retirees encouraged to apply!

Inspectors, NICET II:

  • AAS or BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology

  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in inspection of heavy highway and bridge rehabilitation/replacement projects.

  • NYSDOT Internship experience a plus

 

Senior Inspectors, NICET III:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience

  • NICET Certification in Transportation/Highway and Bridge Construction

  • Flexibility to perform occasional irregular or extended work hours such as Night Shift/Weekend work

 

Resident Engineers/Chief Inspectors:

  • 10-15 years of Heavy Highway/ Bridge Construction Inspection experience

  • NICET IV (required for NYSDOT projects) or equivalent

  • Experience working in team environment

  • Must possess ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff

  • Knowledge of NYSDOT specifications desirable
